Meet illustrator & content creator Laura Jones and see what to expect in this class.
In this introductory lesson, we'll get to know each other and the tools we will be using to create our first font. I'll also give you a brief outline of the class and what we will be covering.
In this lesson, we take a closer look at the two apps we will be using to create our font: Calligraphr and Procreate. I'll show you what you need to do to set up your Calligraphr profile so you are ready to build and download your first font template files.
In this lesson, we will build our very first Calligraphr font templates. I'll walk you through the process step-by-step and you'll learn how to select characters for your font, delete characters from your template that you don't need, and how to export and save your templates so they are ready for you to illustrate your font characters onto.
In this lesson, I'll walk you through how to import your font files into Procreate. I'll show you how to use your iCloud drive to transfer your font templates from your desktop to your iPad and give you some alternative options on how to do the same if you are working with a windows device. I'll also show you how you can create a stack in your Procreate gallery so that you can group all of your font templates and files in one easy-to-find place.
In this lesson, we're going to start creating the line art for our font characters and getting everything ready for our final build. I'll give you some top tips on how to set up your template layers in Procreate and take you through the illustration process step-by-step. Finally, we'll learn the best format for saving our font files so they are ready for exporting back into Calligraphr.
In this lesson, we're finally going to use everything we've created to build our first font! I'll walk you through the process of importing your edited font templates into Calligraphr, how to process and check your individual characters, and how to make small edits to perfect your font. You'll also learn how to use the font builder and how to edit your font's letter spacing, word spacing, and character baseline before downloading and installing your finished font on your device.
In this final lesson, I'll share some extra tips to keep in mind when saving your font. You'll learn how to change your font's type and how to edit the font metadata to prepare it for sharing with others or even for selling in your digital store. I'll also teach you how to convert your font into a web-ready font so you can install it on your website or blog.
