Turning Jeans into Denim Tote Bags
What you'll learn
Do you have old denim jeans that either don't fit, have holes or stains on them? Do you just hate to throw things out? In this class, you will use all your old denim items of clothing to create a fun patchwork messenger bag that can be worn with almost anything. Learn some great techniques on how to use various parts of your jeans such as back pockets into pockets on your bag and many other beginner bag-making techniques such as making handles and lining the bag. Every fabric used in this bag will be made from our old clothing so no need to go out and buy new fabric.

Meet sewing teacher Emily Roberts who will teach you basic bag-making and upcycling techniques.
Let's get started. We will look at what denim you can use and how to successfully unpick and take apart your garments.
For this next lesson, we will look at creating a basic bag template and use this to cut out everything we need.
Next up is making your bag unique we will look at how we will take existing pockets and make these into pockets for our bag and how we can use other parts of our jeans to really embellish the bag.
We can now begin to construct our bag. In this lesson, we will look at constructing the outer and the lining of the bag.
To finish we will construct our handles and put the bag together before admiring our creation.

Hey, I'm Emily. I have been sewing for around 15 years and teaching others for about 8! I love to make anything from bags, clothing and the spot of quilting here and there. I also like to dabble in other crafts too!
