How to Merge an Image With Text
In Photoshop, the key to creating great-looking artwork is to work in layers. You can easily create text images with an image filling the text in Photoshop. Here’s how you do it.
Step 1: Create a blank layer in Photoshop.
Step 2: Place a great-looking image. In this example, I’m going to use a cracked lava picture.
Step 3: Add an additional layer and type in your text. It does not matter what color the text is (I’m just using white because it’s easy to see).
Step 4: Move the image (photograph) layer above the text. (The text will disappear because it will be below the image).
Step 5: Select both layers (click on the layers panel and hold down the Shift key, selecting both the image layer and the text layer).
Step 6: With both layers selected, put the mouse right in between the layers and press the ALT key.
This creates what is known as a “layer mask” – the image is now sitting inside the text.
You can save the resulting image as a PNG file and use it on shirts, coffee mugs, or whatever you like!
