3D Crafts Inspired by AI-generated Art

CF Spark is a new AI tool available on Creative Fabrica that enables you to create stunning images in seconds! To create an image all you need to do is type in a description of what you would like it to be and wait for the beautiful results to appear.
CF Spark is widely used within the CF Community – one of the creators being Sophie from Sofs Designs. Sophie uses AI-generated images as an inspiration for her 3D paper crafts. She developed a creative process that results in truly unique crafts that she showcases in her portfolio or sells in her CF store. In this article, we will share some of her work and inspire you to experiment with CF Spark.
Sophie started using AI at the end of 2022 when Creative Fabrica released CF Spark – a new AI tool. Soon she discovered that AI-generated images can be much more and started to experiment with new ways of using them in her creative process.
Everything starts with a prompt
It takes some practice to produce the desired results, and it all starts with writing a good prompt. Prompts are essentially the language, words or a sentence, describing the art you want the AI tool to generate for you. To make prompts, you can use your own imagination, or an amazing CF Spark extension – CF Prompt Builder. This tool allows you to create powerful prompts by adding all the features you want your design to have such as texture, color, dimension, etc. This tool is a perfect choice if you already have a style in mind you would like to obtain.
3D paper crafts
After the image is generated in CF Spark Art, the designer translates it into a 3D model. Like in the example below, which you can as well find here as a finished product – Plant Creature 3d Papercraft.
Or an image can be used only as an inspiration for a completely new design. Like in the example below – Flower Fleur Creature 3d Papercraft, also inspired by the image above.
To turn an image into a 3D model, the designer uses a combination of programs such as Blender, Tinkercad, Metasequoia, Pepakura, Sketchfab, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.
The process requires both design and 3D modelling skills which are done mainly on a computer. However, once you enter the stage of physically making the 3D papercraft you can use simple tools like scissors and glue to make the paper models. You can alternatively use die-cutting or laser-cutting machines. Paper crafting is a great hobby for crafters of different ages and levels of experience.
The possibilities are endless!
The designer continues to use CF Spark to inspire her future projects while experimenting with different media. You can see some of the generated images below.
Some of the recent creations are inspirations for wallpaper and decoupage patterns. The patterns can be easily generated in another amazing extension – CF Spark Patterns.
The designer tried out all of the CF Spark tools and her favourites are CF Spark Art, CF Spark Patterns and CF Spark Writer. She continues to create and experiment, currently, with laser cutting, sewing and felting projects.
To inspire other crafters, Sophie also published a couple of books containing inspirational AI-generated images for paper crafting.
We hope this article inspired you to try out some of these ideas yourself. Also, have a look at what our creative community has created so far!
