Natural life hacks to keep fabrics from fading

Today’s post is full of useful advice for everyone. Fabric elements always surround us: the clothes we wear, furniture,  or accessories like backpacks are just examples.  You don’t need to be into needlework to use fabric in your daily life. And you should learn how to keep this fabric’s quality at its best.

To help you with this purpose, we have made a list of five natural life hacks. You won’t need unique supplies: you just have to follow intuitive procedures and use stuff that you have at home. We hope you find our advice insightful. Now, let’s look at these tips and tricks.

Avoid using the dryer

Avoid using the dryer

Try to avoid mechanical dryers as much as you can. Instead, just hang your clothes somewhere where they can dry in the air. The heat that drying machines generate can damage the colors of the fabric a lot.

Sunlight can also hurt your clothes: if possible, hang them in the shadow. Fresh air will do the rest. Sometimes, the best solution is also the simplest one!

Wash your clothes in cold water

Wash your clothes in cold water

This simple tip can make a difference. Of course, there are items that you have to wash in hot water, like bedsheets, underwear, or kids’ clothes. In case you can avoid using hot water, we strongly recommend you to do it.

Cold water is less harmful to fibers and pigments. As a result of this, your clothes will maintain their colors and brightness for a longer time. It’s worth trying, don’t you think so?

Salt

Salt

The next time you do laundry, try to add a tablespoon of salt to your washing machine. One of the main components of table salt, chloride, can help you sealing colors in your fabric.

This tip can be useful even if your clothes have already faded. Salt won’t bring the color back, but it can help you restore some brightness and give a better aspect.

White vinegar

If this tip sounds scary, don’t worry! It won’t make your clothes smelly at all. Try to add a cup of white vinegar the next time you run a rinse cycle. By doing this, you will freshen up your laundry while preserving color and patterns.

If you want to wash dyed fabric for the first time, here’s an extra tip for you. Mix some water with two teaspoons of salt and half a teacup of vinegar. Soak the fabric in the mix for 30 minutes. This procedure will keep the colors safe.

Baking soda

Baking soda

During quarantine times, baking soda has become one of the most popular items in the supermarket. In case you have bought a big amount, you can give it a new purpose.

Add half a cup of this magic powder to your next wash cycle. It will help you maintain the brightness of your clothes. We are sure it will make a difference!
