These beautiful layered butterflies are perfect as decorations for special events such as birthday parties and baby showers, and can even be used as cake toppers! Using just a few supplies, these are a wonderful DIY project to whip up.
Supplies:
- Thick paper for crafting: different shades of colors of your choice
- Paper Glue
- Scoring Tool
- Gem stickers

Cricut Design Space
We will begin by uploading the images to Cricut Design Space.
- Log into Design Space and click the ‘Create New Project’ button.
- Click the Upload button, then click the Upload Image button.
- Click the Browse button and locate the SVG files provided with your purchase
The files will be uploaded to Design Space and will appear in the Uploaded Images gallery.
From there you can access the files and work on them.
If you don’t have a cutting machine, such as Cricut, you can print the shapes from the pdf files
and cut them by hand.
Cutting the butterfly
You may want to save time by cutting all the colors at once. Select the material color option to
the same color for every layer. Press the “Make it” button. Move the different parts of the design to look like this:
Place the pieces of paper according to this layout on your mat. Start cutting!!
Assembling the pieces
Score a line along the edge of both wings on every layer of the butterfly, then fold the wings.
Apply glue to attach all the pieces together.
Add some gem stickers.
Project Idea: Cake Topper
Make two butterflies. Cut the “Happy Birthday” template provided with your purchase and attach both pieces together with the butterflies. Glue a wooden stick to the back of the sign. And that’s it!
