Spring Themed Tiered Tray Decor
Spring in the northern hemisphere is here! While Mother Nature is still playing a few tricks, leaves are beginning to bud on the trees, green shoots are showing through the garden beds and soon we’ll be seeing flowers blooming and filling the beds with their glorious colors.
Creative Fabrica has lots of files to choose from to help decorate the tiers in your trays. It was fun (and maybe a little difficult) to choose just a few – and these are the ones used as inspiration for this version of a Spring Tiered Tray.
Easter Tiered Tray – Laser Set
Simple Carrot – Bunny Rabbit – Happy Easter
You’ll also need:
electronic cutting machine and software (Skycut C24 and SCAL 5 Pro)
Cardstock (assorted colors and white)
Printer
Wood blocks
off white acrylic paint
embossing folder (flower)
Spring colored shreds
rolled roses
Adhesives (clear drying glue, heavy-duty glue dots, scor-tape)
Additional pieces to decorate as desired (crate, candy, tags, mini eggs, small bunnies, flowers, butterflies, etc.)
Let’s start with the books – always a favorite addition to the trays:
We’re covering small paper boxes in this version of the books. If you prefer to use wood, no problem. Measure the boxes or wood. In the software, add a vertical rectangle and size to fit the box or wood. You can fill the rectangles with the colors of choice. Pale yellow, pale pink and a light mint green were used. Create the text using the Brooklyn font (normal 1) and center horizontally in the rectangle. The box used in this project was ½” tall. So, the font is shy of that ½ inch mark. Set the text to print when you’re satisfied. Following the software’s directions to do print and cut, print the covers. Cut. Using a strip of double stick tape and attach the cover to the box centering the text along the “spine.”
Bunny Climbing the Ladder
Open the Easter Tray collection. Import the SVG for the ladder and bunnies. Ungroup. Set the bunnies aside. A 3D paper ladder was created using the measurements from the ladder. Cut the bunnies. Using some distress inks, color the bunnies. If you’d like, spritz a little water on the cuts and then blot them. Let dry.
Open the Bunny-Surfing file. Ungroup the pieces and cut. White paper was used for this cut and was inked with distress ink as the previous pieces were. A brad was used for the eye of the rabbit. Foam dots were used for the upper and lower foot. The back upper foot was glued to the body. As was the inset for the ear. Adhere to the ladder.
Open the carrot file – you can use either the file in the laser set OR the carrot in the Simple Carrot file. Because the cuts are pretty fragile when you resize the simple carrot file, you’ll want to back with a shadow cut OR a piece of acetate as was done for this sample. The sample was cut on white paper and colored using markers. Group several carrots together and adhere to the top rung of the ladder.
Glue the rabbit to the side and bottom rung of the ladder.
If you have a Laser machine, follow the directions specific for your machine to cut the files. Any of the files found in the Easter Tray Collection would make great items to use in your trays.
Wooden blocks topped with bunny and rolled rose
3 wooden blocks (2-inch) were painted with off white paint. Lightly sand. Wipe to remove any dust. Apply a second coat of paint if desired. Sand again. Wipe to remove the dust. A ¾ inch strip of paper cut long enough to wrap around each of the blocks was embossed with a floral embossing folder. Adhere the strip to the block using glue or tape. TIP: Be careful not to pull too tightly on the corners as the paper may tear due to the embossing.
Add a rolled rose to the block top. These were left over from a previous project, but you could use one of the roses in this collection, Rolled Flowers, 3D Flower Bundle. Cut in the color or colors of your choice. The rose was adhered to the block using a couple of heavy-duty glue dots.
If you haven’t cut the bunnies found with the ladder file, open the ladder file again and cut just three of the four rabbits. No need to adjust the size. Color if desired. Again, using some heavy-duty glue dots, adhere to the top of the block, tucking the nose into the petals of the rose. If you would prefer, you could add a small easel to the back of the bunny. We still added a glue dot for a little more security.
Crate label
In the SCAL software, create a small label. The shape used here was created using an oval and 2 half circles. Once the elements were sized, placed, and centered horizontally as desired; the command PATH > UNION was used to create a single element. Add two small circles – one on each side to be used for brads. Using a small font such as Brooklyn (Normal 1) create your text. The word FARM was created using Text on an arch. Use the fill option and remove the stroke. repeat for the word “FRESH” but return the text tool to Horizontal text before you being typing. Set the text to print2cut print. The paper used was textured, but a little more texture was wanted so it was dry brushed with some off white paint BEFORE printing and cutting. Make sure that the paint has dried thoroughly. You may get a little bleeding from the printer, but that also adds to the charm. Adding the paint is optional. Add some brads and secure to the crate.
Style your tray by adding the elements as desired. Check your stash for other elements to fill as well.
