How to use a mockup generator
Some Print on Demand providers, like Printify, allow you to generate mockups while creating your designs. The procedure is straightforward!
Let’s start by choosing a product from the platform’s catalog. Once you’ve picked a product, select it to display the customization screen.
Upload your design and place it in the product. Pay attention to the resolution of your image. You can check this parameter on the dashboard you’ll find on the right side of the screen.
Once you’ve finished making changes to your design, it’s time to exit the “Edit” view. Click on “Preview” and you’ll see the mockup that the platform generated for you automatically.
And that’s it! Here you have a beautiful mockup that you can use to promote your products. It looks pretty realistic, doesn’t it?
Using automatic mockup generators has two main perks. The first advantage is that it’s easy to get quality images without putting a lot of effort. The second reason why we’d recommend it is the fact that you’ll get an accurate image of what your product will look like.
The downside of this option is that you are limited by the stock images that the mockup generator provides. You won’t be able to recreate appealing layouts, and it will be harder to find images with a context. For this reason, we recommend you to learn how to insert your designs on a mockup through Photoshop.
How to insert your design on a mockup with Photoshop
Follow these steps to insert your design on a mockup. You’ll see that it’s easy!
Download a mockup image and open it on Adobe Photoshop.
Use the Shape Tool to draw a shape that covers the area where you want to place your design.
Go to the Layers Panel and select the layer where you’ve placed your new shape.
Right-click on the layer and select “Convert to smart object.”
You’ll need to transform your shape in order to make it fit the actual object. To do this, hit “Edit > Transform > Distort.”
Adjust the shape of your smart object until it fits correctly. Some people like to reduce the opacity of the Smart Object to adjust it better. You can do this on the Layer Panel.
Once you’ve finished adjusting your smart object, make sure that the opacity of the layer is back at 100%. Then, press Enter.
Go to the Layers Panel and double click the icon of your Smart Object.
A new screen will pop up. It will have the original aspect of your Smart Object.
Hit “File > Open” to display your design on Photoshop.
Drag and drop your design to place it inside the Smart Object. Once everything is in place, hit “Save” and close the current window.
Once you are back at the original window, you’ll see your design placed in the mockup.
And that’s it! Your design is placed on the mockup, ready to promote your products.
