Print On Demand: Sell customized products online at low risk

Print On Demand: Sell customized products online at low risk main article image

Having your designs printed on physical items can really help enhance the artwork. Many designers selling their artwork choose to print their designs on items such as mug, t-shirt, and notebooks.

But going into business and investing in an inventory can be a pricey affair. It can also be risky if your products don’t sell. Therefor many designers choose to use the Print On Demand business-model as an alternative way to sell products online.

What is Print on Demand (POD)?

Print on Demand (POD) is a print-to-order service in which designers work together with printing suppliers to produce white-label products, such as t-shirts or coffee mugs, with their work printed on it. These products are sold on a per-order basis, which means that the designer only pays after the order has been placed, printed, and shipped to the customer.

The only thing you need to do as a designer to sell your work on Print on Demand, is to provide the design, and everything thereafter (such as printing and shipping) is handled by the printing supplier.

This is a great way for digital designers to sell their work and earn money without having to invest time and money into the printing process.

How to sell with Print on Demand sites

Selling with Print on Demand is easy; all you need to do is open a shop on a Print on Demand website, upload the design, select which type of white-label products you want the design to be available in, and you’re product is available for sale. The perk with this is that you can have your product for sale within minutes.

There are multiple Print on Demand sites out there. A few of the most popular ones are RedBubble, Amazon Merch, Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing, Zazzle, Printify, Printful and many more.

And, with The Print Bar in Australia, our subscribers get a 10% discount available for one-use on orders from their spectacular platform! There, you can get cracking with Silk-Screen Printing, Digital Printing, Embroidery, Dye-Sublimation, Heat-Transfer Vinyl and Pad Printing! Just Choose an item, upload your design & customize, and head to the check out.

Selling on Print on Demand site can be a great way if you want to:

  • Test out a new business idea. As it is low risk, it doesn’t matter if your business idea doesn’t takeoff.
  • Target a specific audience. If you have your own social media fan base, and want to start selling your own merch, or if you want to target very niche customer groups.
  • Make quick sales. As it is very easy to set up new products, you can experiment to see which types of designs sell better. Is it better to print it on a book, t-shirt, cap, coffee mug, tote bag, notebook, phone case, or wall art?

Sell on Print on Demand Sites with digital assets from Creative Fabrica

If you’re an entrepreneur, willing to step into the Print on Demand business, but don’t have the design skills to create your own unique design from scratch, you can use digital assets from Creative Fabrica to start your business. Creative Fabrica offers two different types of commercial licenses for Print on Demand (POD):

Full POD

With Full POD you no longer need to spend time coming up with design ideas. Elements downloaded with Full POD can be used as-is on your POD products- no modification needed! You can focus on scaling your business, and be safe to know that you are licensed to use the designs as-is. Our Full POD license is sold under our Single Sales License and our Subscription License. Make sure that you read through the license thoroughly before you upload the product to the POD site. It’s also important to familiarise yourself with the terms and conditions of the POD site you are uploading to. Some POD platforms may state additional requirements for products to be accepted for publication. If your product does not meet these guidelines, then your product may be rejected.

The Full POD license includes all designs and fonts marked with Full POD and can be found in our Full POD library – new elements are added regularly.

Basic POD

With the Basic POD license, you can modify the crafts or graphics in a way so it isn’t comparable with the original design, or include it as a design element as part of your overall original design. Our fonts are always covered with Basic POD, as long as the font file itself cannot be extracted or uploaded to a 3rd party site/platform/app.  If you want some guidance on how to apply our Basic POD license to your designs, you can read our help article.

The Basic POD license is sold under our Single Sales License and the Subscription License.
