Patriotism is simply love and support for your country. In America, patriots show their support by flying the American Flag, parades, and backyard bar-b-ques, just to name a few. Most people dress up for the occasion so why not add to your attire some cute patriotic earrings made from paper?

1

Supplies:

  • 15” strips of the 1/8” quilling strips in red, white, and blue (or your patriot colors)
  • Quilling tool
  • Tweezers
  • Scissors
  • Glue – PPA glue
  • Sealer
  • Ruler
  • Shape template
  • Quill On border buddy
  • Jump rings
  • Earring hooks
  • Jewelry tools
  • Paint brush
  • Small paper dixie cups
  • Cup of water
  • Paper towels
  • Small cork board (optional)
  • Straight pins (optional)

Triple Triangles

3

Tear two strips of blue quilling paper at 7 ½” long.

TIP: Tearing, rather than cutting, helps the paper ends blend when gluing so that you don’t see the perfect cut in the final product.

Using the triangle quill on, wrap each strip around the 4th triangle down, gluing at the beginning and end of the strip to secure. Once dry, just a few seconds, gently remove from the quill on and set aside.

4

TIP: To keep your glue from clogging when you are using this tiny applicator, rest it upside down on a damp sponge.

19

5

TIP: Use the fingernail of your index finger to hold in place until you get a couple of wraps going and as you are wrapping to help keep the paper strip straight. You’ll also use your fingernail to gently remove your triangle from the quill on so that it does not unravel. You’re going to use your fingernails a lot.

8

Using two 15” strips of white quilling paper, wrap each strip around the 6th triangle down on the triangle quill on, gluing at the beginning and end of the strip to secure. Gently remove from the quill on and set aside.

10

For the red triangles, you’ll need two 30” strips, so just glue two together, laying one end over the top of the other. Wrap each 30” strip around the 8th triangle down on the quill on, gluing as you did the others. Gently remove and set aside.

11

12

Take your quilling tool and gently roll over the edges to get them even.

13

Glue the triangles inside one another along the bottom.

14

Using a tiny brush, paint a coat of PPA glue around the insides of your design. Let dry.

15

Paint a coat around the outside edges with the glue and let dry.

16

Paint a coat on the top and bottom, letting dry after each side.

17

Using a slightly larger paint brush, paint a coat of sealant, covering all edges, allowing it to dry after each edge of your design as you did with the glue.

18

TIP: The sealant may stretch across the openings in your design forming a bubble. If you don’t want this effect, just blow it out.

Attach your jewelry findings and your earrings are complete.

3

Three Circles

25

Using two 15” strips of each color and the circle quill on, wrap each strip around the 3rd row down and secure with glue.

20

TIP: The circle quill on is a bit challenging because of the smooth surface. Your strip is not going to stay in place while you are wrapping so put a dap of glue at the beginning as well as at the end. You’re also going to have to hold the strip in place as you are wrapping it to keep it from slipping.

22

Gently remove and set aside.

Take the quilling tool and gently roll over the edges to make sure they’re even.

Using a tiny brush, paint a coat of PPA glue around the insides of your design. Let dry.

23

Paint a coat around the outside edges with the glue and let dry.

Paint a coat on the top and bottom, letting dry after each side.

Using a slightly larger paint brush, paint a coat of sealant, covering all edges, allowing it to dry after each edge of your design as you did with the glue.

24

Attach your jewelry findings and your earrings are complete.

25

Patriotic Stars

26

Take six 7 ½” strips of each color and wrap around the 2nd row of the circle quill on, remembering to glue at the beginning and the end.

27

Gently remove and set aside.

30

Take your quilling tool and gently roll over the edges to make them even.

Take two 7 1/2” strips of white and roll each one into a tight coil with your quilling tool. Remove from the tool and glue to secure.

29

Take each of the circle shapes and gently pinch flat making two points.

31

32

Now glue to the center piece as shown.

33

34

Using a tiny brush, paint a coat of PPA glue around the insides of your design. Let dry.

Paint a coat around the outside edges with the glue and let dry.

35

Paint a coat on the top and bottom, letting dry after each side.

36

Using a slightly larger paint brush, paint a coat of sealant, covering all edges, allowing it to dry after each edge of your design as you did with the glue.

37

Attach your jewelry findings and your earrings are complete.

26

Patriotic Daisies

46

Take four 15” strips of each color and roll each with the quilling tool and place into the #13 circle template to size.

38

Remove from the template and shape into a teardrop and glue to secure.

39

For each earring, glue six of the teardrop shapes together as shown, with points in the center.

40

TIP: This is easier if you glue three pieces together first to make a half, as shown in the photo below.

41

Make sure that the points align. Let it dry so that you can work with it. Then glue the two halves together. You will have to hold this together for a few minutes until it takes ahold, then you can pin them to a cork board to finish drying.

42

Using a tiny brush, paint a coat of PPA glue around the insides of your design, being careful of the delicate design inside the teardrop shapes. Let dry.

Paint a coat around the outside edges with the glue and let dry.

43

Paint a coat on the top and bottom, letting dry after each side.

44

Using a slightly larger paint brush, paint a coat of sealant, covering all edges, allowing it to dry after each edge of your design as you did with the glue.

45

Attach your jewelry findings and your earrings are complete.

46

Of course, for your country, you may have different colors than red, white, and blue so definitely try different colors. These are a beautiful way to show your patriotism and they make awesome gifts.
