Creating Sublimation Jewelry Sets
Have you ever needed a certain look for your Jewelry for an event and you just can’t seem to find it? Or you saw a post about some really cool looking earrings and you knew you could make something similar if you had the chance? Well, with sublimation jewelry, you have all the possibilities right at your fingertips. This article will go into detail about some different types of sublimation jewelry and show some examples of how to make them.
So most of the supplies you find for sublimation jewelry can be found through different sublimation centered sites, but if this is your first time trying your hand at sublimation jewelry you can find pretty inexpensive sublimation blanks through Amazon. Many come with multiple styles in the pack for a decent price. You just have to do some searching first to find what you truly need and just go from there.
First style of sublimation jewelry we’ll go into will be sublimation studs. These sets come with stainless steel bezel stud, clear glass cabochon, stainless steel backs, aluminum sublimation rounds and glue stickers. This style usually comes in 10-12mm size and you can print out anything really to place in these. For this style of sublimation using a mini press is probably the most efficient way to make these. You would sublimate the image onto the aluminum sheet, then use the glue dot to stick the round to the earring bezel. From there you would need a jewelry glue to secure the glass cabochon on top so that you can see the design on the inside. These are super cute and easy to make as well. A definite must for anyone starting out with sublimation jewelry.
Next style of sublimation jewelry is a cabochon style bracelet. With these bracelets you would need to follow the same steps as the stud earring in which you would sublimate your image, use the glue to stick the round to the bezel and then secure the glass cabochon with glue to the bezel. With this one though instead of being an earring, it’s a bracelet connection instead. With this bracelet you could create a really cute set of jewelry with the earring and the bracelet.
To round out the other two jewelry pieces, you can make yourself a bezel necklace. With this necklace you have yourself a really nice jewelry set. Especially if you use the same image for all three. The necklace bezel uses the same processes as the previous pieces and is super easy to create. In all three jewelry pieces, the biggest difference is the size of the bezel; because of this, making sure your image fits the aluminum round that you sublimate on is key. Thankfully when you order your jewelry blanks they will give you the size of the bezel and you can adjust your image from there.
So, that was a simple set of sublimated bezel Jewelry. They look really cute and are great for kids and adults. You can make many sets using various images or even just adding inspirational words or anything. It’s really up to you on how creative you want to be.
Sublimation Blank Creation
So, we’ve talked about sublimating bezels, now we’ll move on to sublimation earring blanks. These are usually dangle earrings that are in many shapes and sizes. You can find circular shapes, square shapes or even heart shapes. These are cute fun ways to add more variety to your jewelry. You can get even more creative with these since you can have a little more space on these blanks than you do with the bezels themselves.
So, let’s talk about making a sublimation set of earrings and necklace. For this example we have some rectangular sublimation blanks. These are about just under 1.5 inches in height and 1.25 inches in width. So, with these measurements you’ll want to make sure your design goes all the way out. It’s okay to have your design area larger than your blank if you are looking to cover the entire base. Just make sure any main design or wording stays centered on the blank.
Once you’ve decided and created your design, it’s now time to sublimate! First and foremost make sure to remove the clear film on the blanks, if you don’t you will be going through alot of your blanks not knowing why it wasn’t working or looking right. After you have removed the film you are going to want to set your blanks and place your design on them where you would like your design to sit. You can keep the design in place by using heat resistant tape to secure everything. Once it’s all set you will place a piece of butcher paper or parchment paper so that you protect your blank and your press from any ink that may press through. Your press should be set to 356°F-374°F and you will press for about 70 seconds. You may need to adjust your times depending on equipment but this is just a base temp and time to start with.
After you have pressed your blanks you will let the set cool and repeat on the opposite side as well. Now that you’re done pressing your design it’s now time to assemble your jewelry. For this set they have a claw like connector that you will just press together in the opening on the pieces. Your earring hooks should be already attached to the claw connector and for the necklace all you need to do is thread the chain. Once that is complete you have a beautiful set of sublimated earrings and necklace.
All these styles of sublimation Jewelry are just so much fun to design, create and wear. They make great gifts for family and friends. And if you are a small business owner these make great personalized items to sell in your shop. With all your creativity the sky’s the limit!
